April 27 - May 3, 2012
Windfall Alphabet, a collective activity highlighting different species of trees, encouraged participants to join in a series of walks, to connect to the unique natural landscape of Seward Park and the Cheasty Greenspace. Gretchen Bennett led participants on walking tours to note patterning of branch formationsin the trees and on the ground. Participating walkers gathered letter–shaped twigs, whose shapes reminded them of open-ended versions of alphabet letters and other symbols. Meet-ups and a record of the walks were posted on the Violet Strays website.
Each online exhibition on Violet Strays was created specifically and exclusively for the Violet Strays site and was on display for two weeks. At the end of the exhibition, the work was removed from the site entirely. As in a physical gallery, one had to have seen the show during its duration.
