Saturday, June 30, 2pm: Gretchen Bennett, Windfall Alphabet, Governors Island
A public drawing presentation and book, Windfall Alphabet, which was researched and developed on Governors Island, New York, through a working artist’s residency with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in 2010, and was further developed with the Drawing Center New York, within its educational branch, in the summer of 2012.
The Drawing Center and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council presented DrawNow!, a project of The Big Draw, organized as part of the River to River Festival. This four-part series of site-specific artist-led projects was presented on Governors Island on June 23–24 and June 30–July 1, 2012.
As with other artists, such as Belgian-born, Mexico-based artist Francis Alÿs, British land artist Richard Long, and American conceptual visual artist Julia Mandle, this work emerges in the interdisciplinary space of art, place, movement, and community.
