Honeymoon View with Windscreen and Small Tear. Archival inkjet photograph. 35 1/4” H X 52” W. 2017
For this work, a photographic inkjet print of a large-format color pencil drawing of a recorded moment from my honeymoon becomes a series of translations through which the original drawing can be seen from a fixed point of view. The source photo for the original drawing is taken from above. The drawing, too, is photographed from above, and a trapezoid is the result. Surface evidence, such as an accidental tear on the printed source photo in the symmetrical shape of a butterfly, is accepted as a happy accident and translated into the drawing and final photograph. Evidence being fragmentary, and document canonical, I am interested in evidence, as all pieces of the process are collapsed into one elegant space, or slice, that captures a more complex experience.
